Start Your Invisalign Treatment in the Summer
One of the major selling points of Invisalign treatment is that it’s easier to get used to than metal braces. While this is true, there is a still an adjustment period. Your clear aligners may feel a little weird in your mouth until you get used to them, especially when you’re speaking. You may also experience some minor discomfort.
Since many folks spend less time at school or work over the summer, it’s a terrific time to begin your orthodontic treatments. When things get busier again in the fall, you’ll be an Invisalign veteran!
Get Your Family’s Exams and Cleanings on the Calendar
Without school and school-related activities, your family’s calendar may be a bit more open in the summer months. It’s a great time to schedule exams and cleanings for your bunch. That said, we know summers can be busy too – so we offer appointments as early as 7:30 a.m. and Saturday hours three times a month. When you begin preparing for back to school, you’ll be glad you got your family’s exams out of the way!
Drink Lots of Water to Avoid Dry Mouth
Dry mouth isn’t just uncomfortable, it also makes you more susceptible to cavities and other problems. It’s more common in the summer, because you lost moisture throughout your body when you perspire more. We suggest drinking two liters of water a day to stay fully hydrated and avoid dry mouth. Plain water is the best choice. Avoid drinks with caffeine, which acts as a diuretic.
Protect Your Smile With a Custom Mouthguard
If you’re playing summer sports, you should wear a mouthguard to avoid dental damage like cracks and breaks. We take impressions of your teeth to create a custom-mouthguard that fits you much better than equipment purchased from a store. Your mouthguard should last a long time if you take good care of it. Clean between uses and store in a case. Avoid leaving it in the direct sunlight.
Don’t Stray Too Far From Your Dental Routine
Many of us follow a more relaxed schedule during the summer. This can be great for your mental health. But make sure you still practice good oral hygiene, so you don’t damage your dental health. Whether you’re at home or on vacation, brush at least twice a day and floss daily too. It’s especially important if you’re treating yourself to more sugary treats like ice cream or soda.
Make Smile Improvements One of Your Dental To-Dos
If you’ll attend a special event like a wedding or reunion this summer, consider upping your smile game with a cosmetic treatment. Some treatments like dental bonding or gum reshaping can be completed in a single visit while others will take more time. You can schedule a free consultation to explore all of your options.
If a missing tooth or teeth is affecting your smile, schedule a free restorative dentistry consultation to find the solution that best suits you. Your options include dental implants, dental bridges, and dentures.
